Blame it on the myotomes! The myotomes in your body are special masses of nerve cells receiving messages from the spinal nerve roots. When there's compression on these nerve roots or the spinal cord then these messages may become fuzzy or, in rare cases, non-existent. Upper LimbC5- Shoulder Abduction (raising) C5- Elbow Flexion C6/7/8- Shoulder Adduction (lowering) C7- Elbow Extension C6/7- Wrist Flexion & Extension C7- Finger Extension C8- Finger Flexion (this nerve exits between C7 & T1) Lower LimbL2- Hip Flexion L3/4- Knee Extension L4- Ankle Dorsiflexion (raising foot) L5- Great toe flexor L5- Hip Extension S1- Knee Flexion-(sciatic) S1- Ankle Plantarflexion (pointing toes down)
